The goal of Patch Management is to keep the components installed on the network (hardware, software and services) up to date with the latest patches and updates. The network components covered in Patch Management may include:

- Software
- Peripherals
- Cabling
- Routers and switches
- Services such as messaging, database, MIS and file storage.
