We asked schools a range of questions about portable computers that had been purchased for curriculum use.

Each school in the survey has told us about up to two brands of computer that have been purchased during the past three years.

Responses have been included where the school told us that they had at least two portable computers of a particular brand. If the school had only one, the school's response for that brand has not been included.

Seven brands feature in the results. These are listed below:

Acer (http://www.acer.co.uk)
Compaq (http://www.compaq.co.uk)
Dell (http://www.dell.co.uk)
Fujitsu Siemens Computers (http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk)
Hewlett-Packard (http://welcome.hp.com/country/uk/eng/welcome.htm)
RM (http://www.rm.com)
Toshiba (http://www.computers.toshiba.co.uk)

For portable computers, schools were most satisfied with the range of features built in. They were least satisfied with the technical support provided by the computer manufacturer.

Schools showed the greatest differentiation between brands when rating their satisfaction with the technical support provided by the manufacturer. Schools showed the least differentiation between brands when saying how likely they would be to recommend their brand of portable computers to another school.
