Job descriptions for ICT technical support staff
There is a wide range of staff that schools are employing to support their ICT infrastructure. These range from classroom assistants to specialised network support technicians. The functions covered by these roles may vary from basic maintenance and support for teachers, to complex hardware installation and significant input into ICT strategy.
Becta have developed a framework of competences to guide schools in their decisions about the roles of ICT technical support staff. The framework divides each of the possible functions into a four levels. Details can be found here.
Many schools have requested practical guidance in creating ICT technical support job descriptions. We would prefer schools construct their own using the toolkit based on the competency framework. This toolkit is extremely useful because it produces a fully editable report which can be further customised. The toolkit can be accessed here.
However, responding to past requests Becta has collated a range of example job descriptions from staff working in schools and in other support teams. These have been analysed and matched to level from the competences framework. This database can be found here.
